GCER Team Documentation Submission Guidelines
Each team that is attending the Global Conference on Educational Robotics has the opportunity to submit team documentation for inclusion in the Team Documentation Breakout Session. Teams must opt in to be considered for this special breakout session by submitting a presentation through the team home base.
From the teams that opt in, the top 5 or 6 presentations will be selected for the breakout session at GCER. The best presentation in this session will receive a documentation trophy at the GCER Awards Ceremony.
Guidelines:
- Each team must create a PowerPoint presentation detailing their robot building and programming activities from the end of their regional event through May 31st. Your PowerPoint might include photographs, diagrams, flowcharts, etc. To opt in, you will submit a PDF version of this presentation.
- The breakout session presentation judges will expect you to cover the following topics:
- Your team’s post-regional game strategy and the thought process that led to your specific strategy
- Discuss the changes you made in game strategy following your regional tournament
- Describe how your team reached that decision and any alternate strategies that were discussed
- Show any diagrams, mind maps, charts, etc your team might have used when deciding upon a new game strategy
- Discuss how the documentation your team did during the regular season helped you with game strategy during the post season
- Overall robot design (mechanical and programming)
- Show a picture, drawing or sketch of your robots that details what changes were made following your regional tournament
- Discuss the reason(s) for the changes in your mechanical design
- Talk about what sensors you used, and what they are used for
- Show and describe some of your code and how it is organized
- Discuss how the documentation your team did during the regular season helped you with your overall robot design during the post season
- Team strategy and accomplishments of which your team is particularly proud
- Describe how your team was structured and organized
- Tell how the group made decisions about the robot design and/or game strategy
- Describe how the group handled conflict
- Outline your team’s goals at the beginning of the season and how they did or did not change following the regional tournament
- Describe any obstacles your team had to overcome in the post season and how your team continued to move forward
- Describe how your team’s documentation factored into your team strategy
- Your team’s post-regional game strategy and the thought process that led to your specific strategy
Scoring
- The GCER Documentation Award will be based on the ranking received during the breakout session only. Scores received at your regional event and scores received in determining which teams would be included in the breakout session will not be factored into the final rankings.
- There will be 3-5 GCER documentation judges who will rank order each breakout session participant based on the following criteria:
- Preparedness of presenters
- Quality of presentation materials
- Audience interaction
- Coverage of content listed above
- The overall documentation award will be presented at the GCER Awards Ceremony and will not factor into a team’s overall score at the International Botball Tournament.
Submissions
- Submit your papers online through the GCER Team Documentation section of the Team Home Base.
- The deadline for submission is Noon Central Time on June 2, 2009
- The PDF documents submitted by the teams selected to participate in the GCER Documentation breakout session will be published on the Botball website following the conclusion of the Global Conference.
